My Classroom

This is a new idea for me.  I am putting my classroom page on my personal page.  Here goes.
This trimester I am teaching Psychology, Sociology, U.S. History A and B, World History, geography, and Government along with the Yearbook.  Sometimes, my classes are all together and sometimes I am lucky enough to have only U.S. History all together and World history all together.
Very rarely do I have the opportunity of world history making a difference in front of our faces like we did today. The announcement that the Pope will resign on Feb. 28 2013 because of poor health.  While I am sorrowful that the Pope thinks his health is failing so he feels he cannot rule the Catholic church.  It couldn't have happened at a better time for me as a teacher.  In world history we just finished the Reformation.  Now I teach at an Alternative high school, so today when I went into class and asked what is new in the world?  I was amazed with my world history classes when every hand went up and said Hey the Pope is resigning and it hasn't happened since 1450 when they were going to have a civil war because there were two Popes.  Amazing my students had been listening and it made a difference to them today.  Assignments

U.S. History

May 10 1869. Utah made national history.  Right outside our backdoor, well nearly.  Promontory point, connecting the East coast with the West coast, joining the Union and the Pacific together.  Making the now small town of Corrine a booming railroad town.  Legends say that the streets were lined with gold dust. Corrine was also called Sin City.  Once up for the capital of the state, Brigham Young fought against it making the capital where it is now Salt Lake.  Look in the future for Historic monuments and the game of guess where?  All will be in Box Elder County. Disclosure
